Abidin named new mayor

Abidin: Appointed the new Kota Kinabalu city mayor.

KOTA KINABALU: Permanent secretary to the state Local Government and Housing Ministry Datuk Abidin Madingkir has been named the city’s new mayor.

Ending an intense lobbying for the post to replace incumbent Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim, Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman said Abidin was appointed after a consent from the state’s Barisan Nasional leaders.

“Abidin will take over office as the city’s third Mayor after Illiya’s term ends on Feb 2.”

Musa added that Madingkir has vast experience in public service having held various senior government posts for a number of years.

“I am confident that Datuk Abidin will do a good job and raise the quality of living in Kota Kinabalu,” he said.

He also thanked outgoing mayor Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim for a job well done during his three terms as mayor.

“He has done well in improving the condition and landscape of thecity,” added Musa.
