Ooi and Soong chosen to handle issues in Selayang

SELANGOR MCA Beliawanis Wanita chief Jessie Ooi and Bandar Country Homes Residents Association (BCHRA) chairman Soong Beng Khoon have been appointed as representatives to handle residents’ issues in Selayang.

Ooi is appointed as Selayang Parliament coordinator while Soong as Rawang constituency coordinator.

Both Ooi and Soong, who received their letters from the Prime Minister’s Department last week, expressed surprise over appointment.

On Thursday, Selayang MCA division chairman Datuk Tang See Hang announced that both Soong and Ooi would help the people in the area.

“In the past, I love to solve public woes and organise activities for youth and women.

“Two weeks ago, I initiated a 130-people machinery comprising youth to help organise activities and now they would also help in preparing for the general election.

“I am willing to learn and want the community to tell me the problems they face,’’ said the 31-year-old.

Ooi said she hoped to gain the people’s confidence in Barisan Nasional.

Soong, a lawyer by profession, who is the president of BCHRA for eight years, said he was involved in servicing the community for 15 years.

“I was given this task and have met community leaders in Rawang to do a good job.

“As a resident of Rawang for more than a decade, I know the people’s woes especially those staying here and have to face the same problems that they do. I am the man for the job and hope the community will accept me,’’ said Soong, who is also the Selayang MCA division committee member.

Soong also mentioned of issues that has yet to be solved such as widening of the road from Rawang town to Bandar Country Homes, need for traffic lights at Bukit Rawang Jaya, lack of streetlights and the high crime rate.

Soong will meet the people every Wednesday (3pm to 5pm) at Wisma MCA in Rawang, Thursday (8pm to 10pm) BCHRA building in Bandar Country Homes and Friday (3pm to 8pm) Wisma MCA in Rawang.

Ooi will meet the public on Monday (10am to noon) at Wisma MCA and (8pm to 10pm) at Selayang MCA, Tuesday (8pm to 10pm) and Kepong Indah Perdana, on Wednesday (10am to 2pm) Tasik Puteri and Batu Arang and Friday (3pm to 8pm) at Wisma MCA in Rawang.
