Amirul produces his best finish in Spain

PETALING JAYA: Touchline SIC Ajo rider Amirul Hafiq Azmi produced an improved performance in the Moto3 race of the Spanish National Championships at the Albacete circuit on Sunday to finish ninth.

It was the 17-year-old’s first top 10 finish in the championships after finishing 15th in Catalunya in the season opener in April. He crashed out in the second round in Aragon last month.

Hafiq managed to qualify in 13th spot at Albacete and worked his way up to ninth place in the 19-lap race.

“I’m happy to have finished ninth because this is a track that I don’t really like. It was bumpy and it was a very hot race. I didn’t feel comfortable earlier on, but as the laps went by the feeling changed and I felt very good on the KTM bike.

“This is my best result in the championship so far. Hopefully I can improve further at the next race,” said Hafiq.

Team-mate Husni Aizat Abdul Malik, however, could only manage to finish 24th out of 30 riders. The 19-year-old started 28th on the grid.

The fourth round of the championships will be held at the same venue on Sept 8.
