PETALING JAYA: Muhammad Shafiq Rasol romped to victory ahead of Muhammad Hafiza Rofa in Round Two of the Malaysian Super Series’ (MSS) SIC Ninja 250 Cup at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) yesterday.

Beaten to second place in both races by Hafiza in Round One last month, Shafiq showed composure to narrowly win Race One in 21:36.721. Hafiza crossed the line 0.129 seconds behind in 21:36.850.

“It was a very, very difficult race. But I really wanted to win today. So, I pushed very hard and went all out to win,” said Shafiq, who started from pole.

“The circumstances were different today as I had the bike to challenge Hafiza. The bike was performing very well and I must thank the team.

“I hope to maintain my performance tomorrow (today) because it will be another day of hard racing against Hafiza,” added Shafiq.

Hafiza, however, made up for his disappointment by winning the inaugural MGP3 Class. The category, which runs under the same regulation as the Moto3 World Championship, is another effort by the SIC to provide a platform for Malaysian riders and teams to progress into the international arena.

Riding for Warner Pump Raceline, Hafiza crossed the line in 19:54.373. Project MU Thunderasia’s Tengku Amirul Haffiruddin clocked 20:01.234 for second place while Fakhrusy Syakirin Rostam of Dann Motorsport finished third in 20:14.136.
