GE13: Vote wisely and rationally, MIC president tells Indians

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel has called on the Indian community to make a wise and rational political decision this Sunday.

“The results in the last general election has given a strong lesson to all political parties, including Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat to look after the interests of every community,” he said.

However, Palanivel said Indians should not be deceived by the sweet promises of the opposition.

“Voters must assess who really cares and works for the community,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had carried out numerous programmes benefiting Indians in the economic, education, social and religious spheres.

The MIC president is contesting the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat and is being challenged by DAP's M. Manogaran, Berjasa's Mohd Shokri Mahmood and two Independents, T. Alagu and K. Kisho Kumar.

In 2008, MIC vice-president Datuk K. Devamany successfully defended the seat with a majority of 3,117 over J. Apallasamy.

He is now contesting in Sungai Siput.

Palanivel said all 27 of MIC's candidates contesting in nine parliamentary and 18 state seats have been working hard to regain support for the party.

“We are at a crossroads and the results will determine MIC's role as an effective representative of the Indian community.”

On Cameron Highlands, Palanivel said he had requested all agricultural land with temporary occupation licences be converted into leasehold land.

Meanwhile, resident G. Nadarajah clarified that Palanivel had given RM100,000 to the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Blue Val-ley.
