60,000 people expected at Pakatan rally in Batu Kawan

GEORGE TOWN: Pakatan Rakyat expects some 60,000 people at its rally in Penang tonight over claims that the recently concluded general election was fraudu-lent, Penang DAP secretary Ng Wei Aik said.

He said the rally would be held at Batu Kawan Stadium in Seberang Prai from 8pm.

He said the speakers included PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and PAS deputy president Mohamed Sabu.

“The people are advised to wear black and come early to avoid traffic jam. All the top leaders of Pakatan and elected representatives will be present,” Ng told reporters during his walkabout at the Kuantan Road Market here yesterday to thank voters for Pakatan’s victory in Penang at the polls.

Ng, who is also Tanjong MP, said the Pakatan secretariat had already informed the police about the rally.

Penang police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said police would provide the necessary assistance to the organiser who had informed them of the public rally.

“The organiser had submitted a notice to the district police chief as stated in the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

“We will mobilise our men to the scene to maintain public order and safety. We will also ensure smooth traffic flow,” he said when contacted.
