GE13:Setiawangsa PKR candidate to make housing for poor his priority

Ibrahim Yaacob from PKR has said that if he won the Setiawangsa seat, his priority would be securing permanent housing for residents of the People’s Housing Project (PPR) flats in the area.

Speaking at a ceramah at PPR Kampung Baru, Setapak recently, Ibrahim said many of the residents here had been sidelined, with other areas in the constituency being given more emphasis.

“These are the people who really need help. Many of the residents, originally from settlements, were left displaced and are now renting these low-cost flats.

“They cannot afford to buy houses elsewhere as they are too expensive. Bank loans are also not easily available as most of them are senior citizens.

“We hope to discuss with Kuala Lumpur City Council to come up with a plan so that residents can buy the units they currently live in,” Ibrahim said, adding that there were many social issues that also had to be resolved, especially in the less affluent parts of the constituency.

“The issues include the increasing crime rate and lack of facilities.

“For example, Hindu residents do not have a proper facility to conduct funeral rites,” he said, adding that it would be too expensive to conduct the rites at a funeral parlour.

More than 100 residents were present at the ceramah and were later treated to packets of nasi lemak and currypuffs.
