GE13: Foon Yew High School to be built in Pasir Gudang

JOHOR BARU: The government has approved the setting of another Foon Yew High School to be located in Pasir Gudang to cater to the growing student population in the state.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said this was due to Barisan Nasional's concern for all the races in the country.

"I hereby announce that the government has approved the construction of the second branch of Foon Yew School," he said.

Meanwhile, Foon Yew High School Management Committee vice-chairman Tong Sing Chuan, when met at the event, said they were very happy with the announcement.

"We will build the new branch on an eight-hectare site in Seri Alam, Pasir Gudang. The first branch of the school is 10 years old now and can no longer accommodate the rising number of students," he said. It is estimated that about 6,000 students would sit for the school's entrance examination each year.

"We are thankful to Najib for approving the construction of the second branch of our school. This is indeed a very special gift for the school's 100th anniversary," he said.

Presently, over 10,000 students are enrolled at the main Foon Yew campus in Stulang and branch campus in Kulaijaya.

Meanwhile, Johor Baru incumbent Tan Sri Shahrir Samad rubbished reports of him leaving Barisan to join Pakatan Rakyat.

He described the rumours as "old story" and hoped that the people in Johor would see the big picture under Najib's transformation programmes to develop the country.
