BATANG KALI: Mustaf Talib has so much faith in social media website Facebook that he does not believe he needs to campaign anymore.
Mustaf, an independent candidate for the Batang Kali state seat and a 63-year-old grandfather, said he has about 1,000 followers on his Facebook page at facebook.com/mustaf.talib and is targeting only 2,000 votes.
"I am very active on Facebook and spend hours replying and chatting to those that visit my homepage.
"I may not be able to get my deposit back, but I still used my savings of RM5,000 so people can choose me.
"I know that I do not belong to any party but I have done so much work for the people of Kampung Sungai Buaya and the surrounding areas. This is something that people in Batang Kali cannot deny," said Mustaf, who was born here.
The retiree, a former senior systems analyst for the Defence Ministry, said he chose to stand as an Independent as he was not happy with the chosen BN candidate for Batang Kali, Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan.
"Former Batang Kali assemblyman Datuk Isa Abu Kasim had done so much for the people, but was not chosen (to defend his seat)," he said.
Mustaf will not organise any ceremah but has placed about 40 buntings and banners around Batang Kali.
Mustaf will be involved in a four-way fight against BN's Mat Zadzari, Pakatan's Ramachandran Kandasamy and Independant Mustapa Kamal Sapingi.
"This could be my last chance to stand in the election as my age is catching up," said Mustaf.
