Sime, Tenaga power KLCI higher in early trade

KUALA LUMPUR: Fund buying of heavyweights Sime Darby and Tenaga Nasional powered the FBM KLCI higher in early trade.

At 9.01am, the KLCI was up 7.27 points to 1,642.52. Turnover was 24.94 million shares valued at RM40.18mil. There were 70 gainers, 35 losers and 66 counters unchanged.

However, Maybank KE Research cautioned that despite the firmer tone in the US for the last two nights, it expected the local index to be volatile on heavy foreign liquidation activities ahead of the long weekend.

Sime Darby rose 23 sen to RM9.48 and Tenaga 22 sen to RM7.18. Dutch Lady was the top gainer, rising 62 sen to RM43.50 while Genting Plantations added 18 sen to RM8.78 and MMHE 12 sen to RM4.37.

However, BAT fell the most, sliding 98 sen to RM58.02, HLFG 28 sen to RM13.32 and RHB Cap seven sen to RM7.64 while AirAsia lost five sen to RM2.75.
