Mohd Ahsan tastes first victory in Super Series

INDONESIA’S Mohd Ahsan has finally come of age.

Yesterday, the 25-year-old Ahsan played superbly and showed impeccable command at the front court with former Olympic and world champion Hendra Setiawan to dump South Korean hotshots Lee Yong-dae-Ko Sung-hyun 21-15, 21-13 to win the men’s doubles title in the Maybank Malaysian Open badminton championships yesterday.

It was the soft-spoken Ahsan’s first Super Series title.

“My previous seven-year partnership with Bona (Septano) was going nowhere and after London Olympic Games, we split up. I am grateful to Hendra because I have certainly improved since teaming up with him,” said Ahsan.


Men’s singles: Lee Chong Wei (Mas) bt Sony Dwi Kuncoro (Ina) 21-7, 21-8.

Men’s doubles: Mohd Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan (Ina) bt Ko Sung-hyun-Lee Yong-dae (Kor) 21-15, 21-13.

Women’s singles: Tai Tzu-ying (Tpe) bt Yao Xue (Chn) 21-17, 21-14.

Women’s doubles: Bao Yixin-Tian Qing (Chn) bt Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi (Jpn) 21-16, 21-14.

Mixed doubles: Joachim Fischer Nielsen-Christinna Pedersen (Den) bt Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying (Mas) 21-13, 21-18.
