Jan 12–20: Good things come in threes they say! The Actors Studio will be bringing back its acclaimed production of Philadelphia, Here I Come! for the third time in 2013.
Can a play written almost half a century ago by an Irishman, adapted for the Malaysian stage in 1994 and re-staged in 1998 still delight audiences in the new millennium?
In this Joe Hashma-directed adaptation, we’ll get to see a picture of middle class Malaysia in Danny Tan, born in Cheras and raised by his father who runs a sundry shop.
Feeling unfulfilled and unloved, Danny decides to take up his aunt’s offer to join her in Philadelphia, the United States and start anew there. But is the grass really greener on the other side?
Also in the cast are Patrick Teoh, Datuk Faridah Merican, Sandra Sodhy, Radhi Khalid and Lim Soon Heng.

Jan 23 & 24: The Murdoch Theatre in Education Performance Group will be presenting William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, transporting audiences to Bohemia at the turn of the 20th century.
Designed and performed by PhD, Honours and Third Year theatre drama students, the show promises an inventive presentation of Shakespeare’s complex tragicomedy.
The group is touring Malaysia as a result of a unique Creative Arts collaboration between Murdoch University and Universiti Malaya.

Zombie Run 2013

Feb 2: Fancy a run while you attempt to escape from humans dressed up as flesh-eating zombies?
For the first time ever, Malaysia is organising its own Zombie Run, a storyline-based event where participants – grouped into a team of five – have to overcome “obstacles” while searching for a series of tokens.
The teams will be placed in a jungle-like setting complete with abandoned huts, destroyed cars and more. Winners will receive medals and a host of other goodies. The run is limited to 200 teams. Registration ends on Jan 18. Fees: RM75 per person. Time: 7am.

Jan 13: Malaysia’s creative and artistic drumming group, HANDS Percussion, is inviting players with at least five years’ experience in percussions to join them as trainee drummers.
HANDS regularly performs at community and corporate events in addition to producing its own shows. Practice sessions for trainees are held every Sunday from 10am-5pm. Only Shigu drums will be available. Bring your own instruments and prepare a three- to five-minute solo piece. Time: 2pm-6pm.

Jan 19: Impress your relatives this Chinese New Year by making your own Chicken Bak Kwa and Chicken Floss (Bak Hu).
Learn how to from scratch – the process is relatively easy, using affordable ingredients. Some parts of the class will be conducted outdoors so do wear something comfortable to battle the daytime heat.
