Costumed runners bring excitement to PJ Half Marathon

TOMORROW, participants at the PJ Half Marathon will not only be aiming to clock their personal best but also be competing against their favourite movie characters.

Among the movie characters who will be running are Chun Li from Street Fighter, Harry Potter, V from V for Vendetta and Nyota Uhura from Star Trek.

“We are very excited as this is the first time the characters will be out on the street running in a race,” said GSC marketing manager for corporate communications and branding Tan Gaik Lian.

Tan added that the group wants to bring an element of fun to the competitive event with the participation of the characters.

Other characters who will be present are Green Lantern, Judge Dredd, Ironman, Indiana Jones, Yogi Bear, Jedi from Star Wars and cast members from the movie Ice Age.

Also making an appearance are Bola Kampung stars Iwan, Sabok and Azeizul who will be leading the crowd in the warm-up session and keeping them entertained.

Famed twin brothers Upin and Ipin will be cheering as participants are flagged off at the starting points at the Petaling Jaya Stadium in Kelana Jaya.

Various activities have been lined up to cater to participants of all ages around the stadium and it will be free of charge.

Children below 12 years old can take part in the “Nemo-3D” sand art activity and the “Hotel Transylvania-Find Jonathan” activity where one needs to find the right hotel door to locate Jonathan instead of the Transylvania monsters.

There is also the “Resident Evil - Zombie Escape” shooting game where one is required to shoot down ‘zombies’ as well as the “Rise of the Guardians-Assemble the Guardian” puzzle challenge.

Those who seek a little more challenge can compete in the inflatable football or get soaked in the water-dunking activity.

Other activities include face-painting, balloon giveaway, free popcorn sampling and candy floss giveaway at the stadium.

From 7am onwards emcees Linora Low and Mynn Lee from Red FM will be welcoming participants at the finish line.

Animasia Studios is attempting to set the record for the Biggest Inflatable Mascot in the country where they will be putting up a 32ft Bola Kampung’s Iwan at 7.15am.

Entertainment is scheduled to begin at 7.30am with Ayu from One In A Million and Aliff Aziz taking on the stage to perform their popular numbers.

It will then be followed with the prize presentation an hour later.

5.30am: Flag-off – 21km run

6am: Flag-off – 7km run

6.30am: Flag-off – 3km fun run

7am: Expected arrival of participants.

7.15am: Malaysia Book of Records attempt for “Biggest Inflatable” by Animasia Studios

7.30am: Performances by Code Dancers, and Ayu and Aliff Aziz of One In A Million fame

8.30am: Prize presentation ceremony and lucky draw

9.30am: End
