The many faces of Amelia Liew

WHEN asked about their ambition, most primary school pupils replied that they wanted to become doctors and lawyers. I wanted to become a model,” said Amelia Liew — model, event director, emcee and performer.

The undergraduate from Taylor’s University takes modelling seriously.

“Since I was young, I always knew what I wanted. I have not turned back ever since I was spotted at a college bridal show.”

Liew has been a contestant in numerous beauty pageants — she succeeded in making it to the top eight of Miss Malaysia Universe 2009. In 2011, she represented Malaysia in the Miss Asia 2011 pageant in Hong Kong.

“It was an eye-opener for me and the experience I gained was priceless. I got to see the world by befriending people of other nationalities,” said Liew.

The multi-tasking beauty: Model, event director, emcee and performer, Liew is happily tied up with work and other commitments.

“I also had the opportunity to bring in projects to Malaysia by collaborating with Hong Kong television stations,” she added.

Liew’s career was not just confined to modelling as the Kuala Lumpur lass also owns Camelia Events management company.

“Event management is my passion and we manage a variety of events such as corporate functions, conferences, seminars, parties and annual dinners,” she said.

“I organise a lot of parties for children because I love kids. Sometimes, I become the emcee for the event.”

Liew, who was born in Malaysia, spent most of her childhood in Australia and only returned when she was nine.

“I was sent to live with my foster parents when I was three. I became very independent, but I must admit that I am still pretty much a Malaysian,” she joked.

Though tied up with work and commitments, Liew makes time for her other love — traditional Sichuan face-changing performance that has brought her to perform in charities and other events upon request.

“The first time I saw it on television, I was determined to learn it.”

Her love for pets speaks volumes — after passing a six-month pet grooming course, she proceeded to help her neighbours groom their pets.

“It takes a lot of patience,” she said.

When asked how she was able to cope, Liew just smiled and replied, “When are you going start chasing your dreams if you do not do it now?”
