BATU PAHAT: The Chinese Chamber of Commerce Batu Pahat (CCCBP) had voted in a new executive body in an election recently and announced Rengit coffee’s Gan Eng Huat as its new president.
During an inaugration held on Tuesday evening, Gan pledged to continue building the foundation of the collective body and keeping its members united.
Gan said the chamber has shown an outstanding growth over the past years.
“I will continue along the present development path to further strengthen the serving membership and enhance the chamber’s role in local economic and community developments,” he added.
Gan said his predecessor Chink Poh Cheng has drafted memorandum to the government to push for various infrastructure and social developments in the district.
The agendas included a proposal for the government to upgrade and beautification of Batu Pahat River for economic and tourism growth, upgrade of major roads in the district such as Jalan Yong Peng – Batu Pahat, Jalan Minyak Beku, develop industrial zones and approval of a land for the chamber.
“We have our priority issues and challenges which we will continue to press on,” he said.
Gan also paid homage to Chink for his tremendous leadership and guidance to the Chamber over the past one year under his tenure.
“We look forward to continuing in the same vein,” he said.
Gan added that the chambers had amended its constitution to allow its president to hold the position for three-year term instead of one-year for a more effective implementation of its policies and to enable long-term strategies or plans.
Kerk Beng Huat will now serve as the Chamber’s deputy president while Teo Kiong Chin, Lim Poh Teot, Tan Mor Hua, Keay Say Wan and Er Choon Shyan as vice-presidents; and Kwei Yew Tong and Lim Poh Boon as secretary and treasurer respectively.
Currently, CCCBP has 1,513 members.
