Outsourcing sector poised to reach RM1.9mil next year

CYBERJAYA: Malaysia expects the outsourcing industry to be worth RM1.9bil next year, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said.

He said the Economic Transformation Plan had targeted the shared services and outsourcing (SSO) as a growth sector to contribute about RM2.4bil in incremental gross national income and create over 13,290 high-income jobs by 2020.

“At present, there are 130 SSO companies from major local players to multinationals under Multimedia Super Corridor flagship.

“This is not a small number. It is an indication of the growth potential in this sector,” he said at the ceremony to declare IBM Global Delivery Centre (GDC) Malaysia open for business here yesterday.

Mustapa said that over the last few years, the outsourcing services sector had grown rapidly in Malaysia as it had served as an important enabler to both the manufacturing and services sectors.

He said SSO also had a multiplier effect on Malaysia's economy through the creation of jobs and the provision of value-added support for downstream activities. - Bernama
