Steps being taken to improve KTM service

I REFER to the letter “So stressful to travel on KTM Komuter” (The Star, Feb 21).

I would like to thank Ms. Winnie for writing to enable us to improve our service.

I understand the uncomfortable situation she faced but rest assured we are taking measures to rectify the problems and restore the customers’ faith in us.

Our stations are equipped with service route maps.

We have installed the designated route maps at the platform waiting area.

We are aware that the digital clock known as the Passenger Information System (PIS) does not always provide real time information.

Currently, we are in the process of upgrading it and have recently appointed a contractor for this.

On the stations’ announcements, as per normal practice, our announcers on duty will inform passengers on service updates through the PA system.

Recently, we received 14 brand new Six Car Sets (SCS) for commuter service with additional onboard features.

Once the trains commence operations, you will experience the new Passenger Information System (PIS) which will display information on the service route, next station notice, safety features messages and community messages.

You will also be able to view the entire route map where it can be clearly seen on the dynamic route indicator located above the train door.

Through the National Key Results Area (NKRA) project, we have identified selected stations to be upgraded.

For instance, we will be upgrading the Kuala Lumpur, Kepong, Batu Tiga, Nilai, and Klang stations as they are listed as high passenger volume stations.

Disabled users too will be able to enjoy the disabled-friendly facilities at our stations.

Besides upgrading the station facilities, we will also be implementing a new ticketing system which is more user-friendly.

The new contactless ticketing system will accommodate higher passenger capacities compared to the existing 15-year-old magnetic system.

The new ticketing methods using tokens and smart card will be introduced to commuters.

This is expected to be launched by the middle of this year.

With all the efforts supported by the Government throughout the NKRA on improving the public transportation system, we believe we will be able to provide a much improved service soon.

We have taken note of your feedback and that of many others and these will be reflected in the new commuter service that we will introduce early next month.
