student Jean Lee was crowned Miss Malaysia Kebaya 2012 recently. The 21-year-old lass won RM5,000 in the national grand final that was held at Swiss Garden hotel, beating 12 other hopefuls.
The Miss Wilayah Kebaya 2012 also walked away with the Miss Photogenic and Miss Inner Beauty titles.
The Miss Malaysia Kebaya 2012 first runner-up went to student Desiree Tan, 22, while aspiring actress Nur Amirah Mohamed Nasir, 18, won the second runner-up spot, bringing home RM3,000 and RM1,000 respectively.
Lee said bagging the title had opened up an opportunity for her to participate in activities involving various Malaysian cultures.
“I am proud of my heritage and this has been a great chance for me to explore other cultures in Malaysia,” she said.
Lee’s star shone brightly during the “Top 7 Question-and-Answer” session, during which she was asked the question what she would do to save the planet as a Miss Malaysia Kebaya.
“As a Miss Malaysia Kebaya, I will recycle and use energy saving products,” she answered.
Speaking at the press conference after the event, Miss Malaysia Kebaya 2012 president Jason Hee said deciding the final three was tough.
“We had a pre-judged list and we took in every angle such as commitment, attitude and sincerity before making our decision,” he said.
He also added they had started to look for Miss World Kebaya 2013.
“We have a lot of international students in Malaysia and this will be an opportunity for us to showcase our Malaysian-made kebaya to the international fashion,” he said.
Judges for the night included fashion designers Bon Zainal, Amir Luqman, philanthopist Datin Maylene Yong, and Miss Malaysia Kebaya Ambassador 2012 Datuk Wenddi Anne Chong.
The Miss Malaysia Kebaya 2012 pageant is a ground-breaking beauty pageant created and organised by Smart Network Marketing to promote tourism, cultural diversity, our common heritage and also harmony among all races and cultures in Malaysia.
The pageant also opened up opportunities for aspiring young Malaysian women to enter the fields of entertainment, film and commercial advertising and opened up chances for them to show their talents.
