AMPANG JAYA: Five men, believed to be robbery suspects, were arrested after a 15-minute high-speed car chase in Taman Megah Jaya here Thursday.

Police were forced to fire two warning shots at the suspects, who were in a Mercedes Benz. One of the suspects was hit on the right arm.

The incident began when the suspects rammed through a roadblock at the housing area about 11.15am.

Police gave chase and managed to corner the suspects at a dead end some 15 minutes later, but the suspects attempted to ram the police car.

The defiant act prompted the police to fire two warning shots, injuring one of the suspects. All five were detained soon after the shots were fired.

Resident Hashim Abdullah, 60, said he rushed outside his home when he heard the shots and police siren.

"I was reading a newspaper when I heard the commotion outside.

"I was shocked to see policemen surrounding a Mercedes Benz and later arresting five men," he said.

He added he was grateful for the swift action of the police, who managed to detain the suspects quickly.

"I don't know what the men did but to me, they looked very dangerous," he said.

Meanwhile, Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin Jamaluddin confirmed the the police arrested five robbery suspects aged between 20 and 40.

"We will investigate further to uncover the extent of the crimes," he said.
