UPM vice-chancellor Dr Radin steps down due to illness

SERDANG: Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) vice-chancellor Datuk Dr Radin Umar Radin Sohadi has stepped down from his post due to illness.

Dr Radin Umar, who started his term in 2011, was meant to serve as vice-chancellor till Dec 31, 2013.

He said that he had decided to step down a year before his contract ended to focus on receiving treatment.

"I am happy to have seen UPM improve in such a short span of time...and I know that it will progress even further," he told reporters on his last day at the university on Monday.

The Higher Education Ministry is expected to announce Dr Radin Umar's replacement this week.
