Husband among 2 charged in connection with murder of flower garland seller

PETALING JAYA: Two men, including the husband of the victim, were charged in the Magistrate's Court here for allegedly being involved in the murder of a flower garland seller two weeks ago.

V. Nantakumaran, 28, is accused of the murder of S. Sumtarambhal, 33, at a road in Taman Desaria, Sg Way here at about 10am on Dec 17.

The woman's husband, elderly daycare centre operator M. Durai Raju, 36, was charged with abetting Nantakumaran in committing the offence at the same time and place.

Nantakumaran has been charged with murder under section 302 of the Penal Code, while Durai Raju was charged under section 109 of the same act, read together with section 302.

If convicted, both men face the death penalty.

Both men indicated they understood the nature of the charges against them, which were read to them through a Tamil interpreter.

No pleas were recorded and no bail offered.

DPP Wan Mohd Bukhari Wan Mohd prosecuted, while both accused were represented by lawyer Datuk Suraj Singh.

Magistrate Surya Wati Shawal set Feb 19 next year for next mention date.
