Musical aims to highlight the true meaning of Christmas

CHRISTMAS is a time of cheer, celebration and gift-giving. However, amidst the merry-making, we sometimes forget the true meaning of Christmas, which is to receive the first and most precious gift of all.

Come find out and enjoy a family-friendly musical that unravels the story of the birth of a baby, through the candid yet thought-provoking conversation of three lady friends.

This musical promises heart-warming songs, exuberant dances and creative multimedia presentations that will make your Christmas truly unforgettable.

Calvary Church Kuala Lumpur will be presenting The Gift At Christmas musical at 5pm on Dec 22 and 23 in Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang.

This year’s musical will be different from the past concert-based presentations.

There will be more story-telling, enhanced by the use of LED screens and creative lighting. In addition, there will be certain technical innovations in the drama, music and dance capabilities.

“This contemporary musical story is set in the city, in a cafe atmosphere, which most of us can identify with,” said Pastor Christopher Lee, who is in charge of the production.

The musical promises exuberant performances that involves 200-odd volunteers from the church.

The actors, singers and dancers have been practising since September and committed a few nights each week to the musical.

“Various genres of music and dances ranging from ballads, Motown and hip-hop to soul and jazz will be fused to deliver classical entertainment in a refreshing manner,” said Lee, who has been involved in the church music and creative arts ministry for many years.

To add more meaning to the celebration, the Calvary Church senior Pastor Tan Sri Rev Prince Guneratnam will deliver hope-filled messages every night.

Admission to the musical is free.

On Dec 23, the church will be meeting at the same venue at 10am for a special Christmas celebration.

A Children’s Joy Celebration for children aged from five to 11 will be held at the same time, with nursery care provided for those aged from eight months to four years old. Admission for this special service is also free.

Wisma MCA is within walking distance from the Ampang Park LRT station, which is a public transportation hub for LRT, taxis and buses.
