Independent MPs: Stop making ludicrous claims

PETALING JAYA: Independent MPs slammed Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for claiming that children aged between two and 12 were in the electoral roll.

Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong said in his 30-year political career he had never seen any children lining up to get ballot papers during elections.

“Anwar should stop tarnishing the image of the country with such ludicrous claims.

Wee's views were shared by Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng, Bayan Baru MP Zahrain Hashim and Padang Serai MP N. Gobalakrishnan.

They were responding to Anwar's claim in a recent interview with ABC Radio that even those aged between two and 12 were on the electoral roll.

Gobalakrishnan said Anwar should feel ashamed for failing to curb election fraud in his own party, PKR, two years ago.

“More than 160 complaints of fraud were lodged during the 2010 PKR elections, including by Anwar's nephew-in-law Badrul Hisham Shahrin (popularly known as Chegu Bard), but until today no action has been taken,” he said.

Meanwhile, Barisan Backbenchers Club deputy chief Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said he was glad “that the Australian Government refused to entertain politically-motivated invitations.”

International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said: “He has been making wild allegations without proper basis for people who can think including the Australian Foreign Minister.

Malaysia cannot be all wrong in terms of elections when you have five states falling to the Opposition in a general election, as what happened in 2008.”
