Two men drown after trying to evade police

JOHOR BARU: In a bid to evade police capture, two men jumped into the Plentong River here and ended up drowning.

The victims - Zainal Ismail, 24, and Heryzan La Ritah, 23, - were on a motorcycle when the police stopped them for a routine check in Kampung Plentong Baru at around 2.30pm on Monday.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Zainuddin Yaacob said Tuesday the fire and rescue department found the victims' bodies at around 9.35pm.

He added that one of the victims had a criminal record for criminal intimidation and was an ex-convict.
