THE 1Malaysia Clinic (K1M) in Taman Sri Serdang, Seri Kembangan, is now open to provide basic healthcare services to the local community.

Seri Serdang assemblyman Datuk Mohamad Satim Diman said K1M would serve the 12,000 registered voters in Taman Sri Serdang and their families.

“It costs RM150,000 to renovate the clinic premises and purchase the necessary equipment,” he said, adding that renovations took about two months.

“Besides Taman Sri Serdang, two more 1Malaysia Clinics will be opened — one each in Lestari Perdana and Taman Puchong Permai. Each K1M is expected to treat up to 100 patients a day.”

Satim thanked the prime minister and Health Ministry for setting up the three 1Malaysia Clinics that would cater to the basic healthcare needs of the 70,700 registered voters in the Taman Sri Serdang constituency as well as their families.

“The premises where the Taman Sri Serdang K1M is located was previously occupied by the Sri Serdang Umno Office,” said Satim, who is Puchong Umno division chief.

“As there were difficulties in acquiring a suitable venue for the clinic, we decided to relocate the Umno service centre to Equine Park and vacate the premises for the clinic to better serve the community.”

Serdang parliamentary liaison officer Datuk Yap Pian Hon said having the K1M would ease the burden at the Community Polyclinic in Seri Kembangan and Serdang Hospital.

“The local community, particularly those from the low-income group, now don’t have to travel so far should they need to seek some basic healthcare treatment,” he said.

Meanwhile, Satim criticised the Selangor government for its lack of concern for the people’s welfare.

“The state government claims to have a ‘people-friendly’ (mesra rakyat) approach, but does not practise what they preach,” he said.

“They build barriers that obstruct views of recreational lakes and tear down plants grown by residents on pockets of land around their homes.”

Satim criticised the Selangor government’s administration, which appeared profit-oriented and geared towards the commercial sector.

He said he plans to raise the issue on integrity at the state assembly sitting, such as questioning the content of the camera that was installed in the Selangor Mentri Besar’s room and number of investments brought in by the Selangor economic adviser.

The 1Malaysia Clinic in Taman Sri Serdang would operate from 10am to 5pm daily, seven days a week.

“The operation hours will be as such, until there is additional full-time staff to extend operation hours to 10pm,” said Petaling District health officer Dr Mohamed Ismail Abdul Samad.

The clinic, located at Jalan 18/4, Taman Sri Serdang, has three examination rooms, a laboratory and a pantry.

It is manned by an assistant medical officer, a staff nurse, a community nurse and an attendant.

“A doctor will be stationed here if there is a demand,” said Dr Ismail.

The clinic will provide treatment only for minor illnesses like headache, stomach ache, flu and fever.

The charges are RM1 per visit for locals and RM15 for foreigners while senior citizens aged 60 and above are treated free.
