34,000 register for Penang marathon

PETALING JAYA: More than 34,000 runners have registered for this Sunday’s Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon.

Allianz Life Insurance Malaysia Berhad CEO Jens Reisch said the event “creates another milestone as it gears up towards the last run on the current Penang Bridge before it moves to the new bridge next year”.

“We hope to provide a positive platform to promote a healthy lifestyle and balanced living among Malaysians,” he said.

“Participation has increased from 27,500 to 34,000 this year. This includes participation from the Allianz running community consisting of Allianz employees, agents and business partners from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Germany. The growth in number portrays the success of the event.”

The marathon has four main categories – full marathon, half-marathon, 10K and Fun Run.
