Selayang councillors object to transfer of president

SELAYANG: The municipal council here is looking at taking legal action to declare null and void a Public Service Department directive to transfer its president to another government agency.

Several councillors told a press conference on Thursday that they objected to the directive to transfer Datuk Zainal Abidin A'ala to the National Institute of Public Administration (Intan).

They claimed that the directive contravened the Local Government Act 1976 which empowers the state government to appoint the president.

It was reported that Zainal Abidin was transferred out amid the brewing controversy surrounding the Batu Caves condominium project.

Zainal Abidin had reportedly revealed minutes of a meeting in 2007 pertaining to the project.

He is due to report for duty at Intan on Thursday.
