Umno Youth to march on July 9 for preserving country's democratic system

PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth will organise a march in Kuala Lumpur on July 9, the same day as Bersih's rally, to hand over a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, said Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said they would hand over the memorandum calling for the democratic system in the country to be preserved and suggestions to improve on the election process.

Khairy alleged that many voters were moved by the Opposition from its winning parliamentary constituencies to losing constituencies.

He also said he hoped to get support from the other youth divisions of component parties and expected tens of thousands to join Umno Youth.

On concerns about clashes with Bersih, he said this was not the intention, but that the voice of the people did not belong only to the Opposition.

Several non-governmental organisations have pledged support for the march, he added.
