PENANG is expecting the annual Chap Goh Meh celebration to be a major tourist attraction, with thousands of locals and visitors participating in the various activities lined up.

Organised jointly by the state government and satellite television provider — Astro — the traditional event which marks the end of the 15-day Lunar New Year celebration, will be held at the scenic Esplanade grounds on Thursday.

The event will kick off at 4pm with various hawkers selling the famous Penang street food, state Tourism Development and Culture committee chairman Danny Law Heng Kiang said.

The public will also be entertained with cultural performances such as chingay, a dragon dance and a 24-Season Drums performance.

A ‘Baba Nyonya’ performance will also be presented during this event

Artistes from the Astro television stable would also be on hand to perform.
