A NEW sleek, multi-functional watch with a touch of glamour — Certina DS Multi-8 — will be in stores this month.

The Swiss sports watch specialist, Certina has yet again borne a novel timepiece that is versatile and worldly, with a quartz analog-digital piece that will appeal to today’s world.

In an era where everything is easy to use with minimal effort, the multi-faceted DS-Multi 8 is a piece that will catch the eye of sportsmen and businessmen alike.

The watch was recently introduced to the Malaysian circuit at a special launch party for members of the media at G Tower, Jalan Tun Razak.

During the event, the Swatch Group Malaysia general manager Bernard Yong applauded the team here for making Certina a household name since it was relaunched in Malaysia four years ago.

Certina’s head of international sales Adrian Halter said the watch was for the people by the people.

In designing it, the creative heads and engineers took three years right from the conceptualisation to the finished product.

“We even conducted research among sportsmen and travellers to find out their preferences in a watch.

“We wanted to know what features they think were useful,” he said.

The DS Multi-8 is equipped with a unique ETA 8-function analog- digital movement and brings an array of features, such as twin “time-swap” time zones over its analog hands, and full calendar-week information, alarm, timer and chrono functions over its digital display.

The watch is a traveller’s delight, with acoustic and vibro alarm that can be changed according to the user’s preference.

It comes with a 316L stainless steel case and it easily spans lifestyles, from classic business to sporty globe-trekking.

“Its sapphire crystal is treated with anti-reflection coating on both faces, to ensure optimal reading of hands and digital display,” said Halter in his presentation.

All that is needed to control the DS Multi-8 are the three push-buttons. Equipped with the Certina DS Concept, the watch is water-resistant up to a pressure of 10 bar (100m).

The DS Multi-8 is available with either a brown leather strap with twin-push button butterfly clasp, or with a matching three-row stainless steel bracelet with polished central links and brushed outer links, held together by a folding safety buckle.

A fully titanium version (case and bracelet) is also available.

The leather strap version is priced from RM2,210 while the titanium version is priced at RM2,840 and is unisex.

Members of the media were given a short introduction to the watches and were given the opportunity to play with the functions via a touch LCD screen which took them on a virtual tour of the watch.

At the end of the event, two media representatives walked away with a DS-Multi 8 during a lucky draw session making them the first in the country to own them.
