Nga says sorry over "metallic black" jibe

IPOH: Pantai Remis assemblyman Nga Kor Ming has apologised for his remarks for calling Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir a “metallic black person”.

”To all those who feel offended by my remarks, I wish to say sorry and apologise to them including Dr Zambry,” Nga read out from a prepared statement during a press conference at the Perak DAP headquarters here on Wednesday.

The state DAP secretary, however, maintained that in no absolute circumstances was he referring to Dr Zambry's skin colour or Indians when he uttered the phrase in various ceramah.

”I simply meant that the Mentri Besar is illegal and that the state government is unlawful,” he said.

Nga, who is also Taiping MP, claimed that his speech had been taken out of context, adding that the issue was being politicised as the general election was near.

”All Malaysians are my brothers and sisters including Dr Zambry.

”I personally have no hatred against him but I will never recognise him as Mentri Besar simply because he does not have the mandate from the rakyat,” Nga added.

Nga explained that since the fall of the Pakatan government in Perak in February 2009, Pakatan Rakyat had launched a “1 Black Perak” theme to express the people's anger and frustration.

State DAP deputy chief V. Sivakumar, who was also present, defended Nga by saying that the latter's comments had been taken out of context and that he did not have any intention of insulting the Indians.

Earlier in the morning, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Wawasan Kesejahteraan Insan Perak (Wawasan) handed over a memorandum to Perak DAP demanding that Nga apologise. They had earlier staged a peaceful protest in front of the party's headquarters here.

Its president, Fauzi Muda said DAP should not nominate Nga as a candidate in the upcoming general election if the party did not want to be seen supporting such racist behaviour.
