Four GOF men killed, three injured in accident

SANDAKAN: Four members of the General Operations Force (GOF) were killed and three others badly injured when their police truck collided with a lorry at KM30 Jalan Labuk here.

The seven were on their way back to the Battalion 15 headquarters in Bandar Karamunting at 4.20am yesterday when the accident happened.

L/Kpl Sapieh Jalhani, 32, Sjn Hashamdi Abdullah, 52, and L/Kpl Agustine Lee, 31, died on the spot while L/Kpl Sylvester Assin, 36, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Duchess of Kent Hospital.

Those injured were L/Kpl Dixson Mamat, 28, L/Kpl Mohd Asri Sabani, 39, and L/Kpl Francis Joseph, 37.

Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Rosli Mohd Isa said an investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of the crash.

Police have recorded a statement from the lorry driver.

In another incident, a participant undergoing selection for the Jakarta SEA Games national parachuting team suffered minor leg injuries after a jump from Bukit Sim Sim on Sunday.

The parachutist from Johor was among 32 participants from throughout the country taking part in the selection process. Sandakan was the final location after earlier jumps in Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu and Kota Kinabalu.
