ABOUT 50 of the 180 registered members of the Council of Justices of the Peace of Selangor attended the council’s Annual General Meeting in Shah Alam recently.
Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had appointed Datuk Seri Mahamad Fathil Datuk Mahmood, Datuk Ng Seing Liong and Datuk Teo Chiang Hong as the council’s president, secretary-general and treasurer, respectively.
Three vice-presidents — Datuk Loke Fay, Datuk Mohd Karim Abdullah Omar and Dr Sri Kumar — were returned unopposed while the auditor elected at the AGM was Hui Swee Teck.
During the meeting, Fathil announced the council had come up with a new logo, which had been approved by the Registrar of Societies, to represent a fresh change and start.
“The Sultan will be watching over the JPs closely. Members are expected to actively serve the public and the local community effectively,” Fathil said.
He added that several service centres had been set up in Petaling Jaya, Sentul, Shah Alam, Kuala Lumpur and at the MCA headquarters to assist the community.
“With more such centres, the process of certifying true copies of certificates, which JPs have the authority to perform, will be more accessible, making it convenient for the public,” Fathil said.
During the meeting, it was announced that 13 JPs were also elected to the committee, including MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong.
