PKR sacks Zul Noordin (Update)

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR sacked its controversial Kulim-Bandar Baru MP Zulkifli Noordin on Saturday after the party's supreme council meeting.

PKR is also asking him to vacate his Kulim-Bandar Baru seat in 'good faith' as he had won the seat under the PKR banner, said party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution.

Zulkifli has 14 days to appeal the decision.

"It was a unanimous decision," Saifuddin said.

He said the discliplinary board had met Thursday and, even though Zulkifli had walked out of the hearing after he refused to recognise the board which he said should be made up only of Muslims, the board had made its recommendations.

Zulkifli was hauled up over his police report against PAS Khalid Samad who had said it was all right for non-Muslims to use the word “Allah” and his public criticisms of DAP’s Lim Guan Eng.

Saifuddin said the party rejected Zulkifli’s request for an all-Muslim panel since it was a disciplinary matter.

“It seems that he failed to understand that he was not tried for his stand on the word “Allah”, but for his act of lodging a police report against a fellow Pakatan Rakyat MP despite the party’s gag order on the matter,” he said.
