Duo sworn in as Kedah exco men

ALOR SETAR: PAS Ayer Hitam assemblyman Abdul Ghani Ahmad and PKR Sidam assemblyman Tan Joon Long @ Tan Chow Kang were sworn in as new Kedah executive council members for a one-year term.

Their terms began yesterday.

The swearing-in ceremony was held before the Sultan of Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah and the Sultanah of Kedah Tuanku Haminah Hamidun at the Istana Anak Bukit here yesterday.

Abdul Ghani, 39, replaced PAS Pantai Merdeka assemblyman Abdullah Jusoh while Tan replaced PKR Bakar Arang assemblyman Tan Wei Shu.

Meanwhile, eight people renewed their oaths as state executive council members.

They were Datuk Ir Phahrolrazi Zawawi, Datuk Mohamed Taulan Mat Rasul, Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah, Dr Hamdan Mohamed Khalib, Siti Aishah Ghazali, Dr Ismail Salleh, S. Manikumar and Lim Soo Nee.

At the ceremony, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak said Abdul Ghani took over Abdullah’s post as Information and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman while Tan became the Environment, Chinese Community Affairs and Transport Committee chairman replacing Wei Shu.

Meanwhile, of the two who had been dropped from the line-up, only Abdullah was present at the swearing-in ceremony.

PKR state chairman Ahmad Kasim said Wei Shu had called him last week and told him that he would be on holiday for several days, adding that he was disappointed at being sidelined, but would continue to be loyal to the party and serve the people.

Abdul Ghani resigned as deputy state assembly speaker following the appointment.

The new deputy state speaker will be appointed at the next sitting.
