Sulaiman remembered for his flair with words

SEGAMAT: His daughter described him as a strict but caring person while a fellow assemblyman said the late Datuk Sulaiman Taha will always be remembered for his flair with words and poetry.

Sulaiman, the three-term Tenang assemblyman, was laid to rest at the Paya Merah Muslim cemetery in Labis here at around 12.30pm yesterday. His family – wife and seven children – close friends and politicians were present.

He died at about 1.10am at the Ampang Puteri Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, where he was admitted late November.

Sulaiman, 59, had been suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes. He was initially warded at a hospital in Segamat before being transferred to the private hospital.

Eldest daughter Marsila, 33, said she would remember her father as being a strict yet caring person.

“Many people think he is stern because of his appearance. But he was a very loving father,” she said, adding that he enjoyed spending time with his wife and all his seven children.

Marsila said Sulaiman was also fond of good food and gardening.

Kempas assemblyman and Umno colleague Datuk Osman Sapian said Sulaiman was a good public speaker and had a flair for words and poetry.

He added that Sulaiman was well-accepted as an assemblyman and as head of the Umno Tenang branch.

Johor Umno Wanita head Datuk Sharifah Azizah said Sulaiman was a hardworking person and had served the party for many years.

“He had been with us since the 70s and has contributed to the many achievements and developments within the party,” she said.
