JOHOR BARU: The Tenang assemblyman who has been in and out of consciousness since being admitted to hospital at the end of last month, has passed away early today.

Datuk Sulaiman Taha (pic), in his 50s, breathed his last at about 1.10am, according to a tweet by Labis MP Chua Tee Yong.

Johor Umno information chief Datuk Samsol Bahari Jamali also confirmed that Sulaiman who had been warded at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital in Kuala Lumpur has died.

The three-term assemblyman, who suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes, was initially warded in a hospital in Segamat before being transferred to the private hospital.

Barisan Nasional leaders, including state Umno leaders were not allowed to see him when they visited the hospital.

Chua had earlier said Sulaiman was in critical condition.

“We are praying for his speedy recovery,” he said, adding that he had earlier visited and been in touch with Sulaiman’s family.

Asked about who was taking care of Sulaiman’s constituency, Chua said: “As a team, that does not arise as I also move around his constituency.

“Even today, I will be there for a Deepavali function”.
