Felcra plantation jobs for unemployed youths

KUALA TERENGGANU: Felcra Berhad is offering jobs in its plantations to youths without permanent work to reduce the agency’s dependence on foreign workers.

Its senior executive Che Mohd Zainun Abdul Jalil said that Felcra had developed 24,000ha in Terengganu, with 22,000ha planted with oil palm and the remaining with rubber.

“However, most of the workers are foreigners,” he said.

He said that Felcra was prepared to develop abandoned land belonging to individuals under its land consolidation and rehabilitation programme.

“Profits from the projects will be given to the owners depending on the land size,” he added.

Che Mohd Zainun also said that Felcra provided opportunities for participants to farm cash crops like maize, watermelon and lemon grass for supplementary income.

“They can do so while waiting to harvest the oil palm fruit of tap the rubber trees,” he added. — Bernama
