UPSR questions online

KUALA TERENGGANU: A databank with more than 10,000 past UPSR questions will go online on a monthly basis into 25,000 digital notebooks to be given to Year Five pupils in the state.

The notebooks, more popularly known as e-books, will be distributed to the pupils from May 26.

Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said a panel of educationists would be appointed to oversee the management of the databank and examination portal.

“With just a click of the mouse, the pupils will be able to retrieve past year questions and answer them online,” he told The Star here yesterday.

Ahmad said the pupils could then submit the answers to the panel for marking.

“With this, we hope pupils would be adequately prepared to sit for the actual UPSR examination and elevate the overall performance of the state.

“It will be very exciting as pupils can compete with their peers from all over the state for the highest scores. We will also look into a mechanism to reward the top scorers,” he said.

The state government, he said, also planned to eventually commercialise the examination portal, giving pupils from other states access for a nominal fee.

Ahmad noted that so far, Malacca and Sarawak had expressed interest in the e-book.

On the possibility that some pupils might misuse their Internet-enabled e-book to access pornographic sites, Ahmad reiterated that the state government had taken all precautionary measures including commissioning software engineers to block entry to such sites.
