ALL poor and hardcore poor families in Malaysia have been urged to register with e-Kasih.
Federal Territories State Deve-lopment Office Implementation Coordination Unit director Datuk Mohd Zaharil Kasim urged those with a household income of below RM1,000 to register with the portal which had a database that was quite comprehensive.
The database showed household sizes, its composition and income level, he added.
Zaharil said many had benefited from e-Kasih programmes in terms of starting a business, paying school fees and getting low-cost apartments.
As of March, there are 396 poor and 148 hardcore poor in Kuala Lumpur.
“However, the biggest problem that we face is that the poor are too shy to register themselves. Or, they just do not know about the portal,” said Zaharil.
“So we urge that all community leaders identify the poor people in their society and help them register with the portal.
“The agencies concerned will refer to the list to offer help,” said Zaharil during the presentation of material aid to several bodies in the Cheras constituency on Tuesday.
Several schools, residents associations, Rukun Tetangga and religious organisations in the Cheras constituency received aid in the form of computers, laptops, loud hailer systems, walkie-talkie and cash, from the Cheras MCA with funding from the Federal Territories State Development office under the Implementation and Coordination Unit.
The total funding was worth RM150,000.
Also present at the event were Federal Territory MCA chairman Senator Tan Sri Tee Hock Seng, MCA Cheras vice-chairman Ng Chin and Cheras MCA secretary Dr Jeffrey Goh.
Goh said this was the second time such a funding event was held. The first one was held last year.
“This time around, we offered help to different organisations and schools, as there are many in the Cheras constituency.
“MCA Cheras applied for the funds and it was granted within six weeks, and that is very fast,” he said.
Goh also urged the poor to come to MCA Cheras service centre on Wednesdays from 7.30pm to 10pm to get registered on e-Kasih.
