AirAsia plans to expand routes to India

LOW-COST airline AirAsia plans to expand its routes to India, particularly to destinations where there are no direct flights.

Tamil Nesan quoted its regional head of commercial Kathleen Tan as saying that the potential destinations included Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai.

She said AirAsia was committed to adding flights and destinations in the Indian market, which would allow visitors from that country to enjoy its low fares. Tan said since the start of the Kuala Lumpur-Kochi route two months ago, AirAsia had recorded a strong response.

> Malaysia Nanban reported the plight of a 22-year-old mother who had had to struggle with looking after her five children while her husband languished in jail.

I. Jeevasanthrika, who eloped with her husband and had her first child by 15, is currently squatting in an abandoned house in Ayer Tawar, Perak, without access to water or electricity.

She claimed that since both her husband and her did not have birth certificates, none of her five children had their births registered.

Jeevasanthrika, who earns RM10 daily working at a second hand goods shop, also said she had to pay RM3 for 10 pails of water from a neighbour and RM3 to buy candles.

Kampong Acheh community worker Leela Govindasamy said she had requested the Manjung Women and Family Community Development Department to look into the matter.
