Selera Kampung

‘Selera Kampung’ will be the theme highlight for this year’s Ramadan Buffet Dinner spread at Wild Rice Restaurant in Boulevard Hotel, Mid Valley. The menu will encompass traditional kampung-style dishes, along with favourite Western, Indian and Chinese cuisines with over 60 types of dishes every day, with seven rotating menus, ranging from refreshing appetisers, fresh salads and authentic hot dishes to satisfying desserts. From the appetisers, head to the mains which has Ayam Perchik Kelantan, Ketam Gulai Lemak Nenas, Udang Masak Sambal Petai, Kari Kepala Ikan, Kambing Gulai Kawah, Terung Masak Udang Kering, Rendang Tok and Udang Galah Tandoori among others. Two specials are the Roasted Whole Lamb and Vegetable Briyani Rice.

The buffet is priced at RM75.00 nett (adult) and RM38.00 nett (children below 12 years old).

Authentic Malay flavours

The Poolside area on the 6th Floor and the Starhill Conference Centre on 4th floor of the JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur has been transformed into a Ramadan bazaar, to replicate a kampung ambience. For those who yearn for “nenek” or grandma’s traditional dishes, there is the “Dari Dapur Nenda” corner highlighting typical Malay dishes like Acar Rampai Sari, Terung Goring Bercili, Rendang Kerang and Daging Salai Masak Lemak Cili Api. Besides that, there’s nasi briyani, satay, ikan bakar, ayam tandoori, roti canai, chicken rice, ice kacang, fruit station and more. The buffet is priced at RM54.00++ per person. Nyonya, Malay and Chinese favourites

There’s a whole lot of Nyonya, Malay and Chinese favourites to relish at Penang Village, Taman Tun Dr Ismail this Ramadan. The buffet priced at RM39.50+ will feature Malay dishes like Beef Rendang, Kangkung Belacan, Nasi Tomato and Ayam Masak Merah while popular Nyonya dishes Baba Fried Chicken, Stir Fried Prawn with Tom Yam Sauce, Heh Bee Butter Prawn, Assam Petai Tofu and Lemak Curry Prawn are making a comeback. This year’s line up also has Chinese stir-fries like Ginger Beef with Spring Onion, Lychee Sweet & Sour Prawn and Fish Fillet with Black Bean Sauce. There are also action stalls dishing up Lamb Chops, Ikan Bakar, Penang Char Koay Teow and Roti Jala with Chicken Curry. The dessert section should not be missed as Nyonya cakes are at their best here.

CAGAYAN’S CAFE, G107-108, Centre Point, Bandar Utama, PJ (Tel: 03-7724 1022). Business Hrs: Daily (11.30am-10pm). Non-halal. Combines 50% of its menu with Japanese don buri and Western dishes to cater to a wider group of diners. Also known for its Classic, Chilli Hot and Oriental sauces.

Business hours: 10am to 10pm (Sunday to Thursday), 10am to 10.30pm (Friday and Saturday). Serves up an interesting array of over 50 pasta dishes using Japanese spaghetti. Rice and pizza cooked with Japanese ingredients like seaweed, miso and sesame are rather interesting.

MICHELANGELO’S RESTAURANTE & BAR M, Lot no. J-OG-03 & J-OG-04, Soho KL, No. 2, Jalan Solaris, Solaris Mont Kiara, KL (Tel: 03-6203 7734). Business hours: Sun-Thurs (11am-11pm), Fri-Sat (11am-midnight). An upscale casual outlet with classy interior design with its signature Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam on its wall. Serves a lavish Italian fare from appetisers, main courses and desserts.

Italiannies quaint ambience is conducive for conversations over traditional Italian fare. Has a kids’ menu that would appeal to the young ones with kid-size pastas and pizzas.

DE 3 WESTERN CUISINE & CAFE, 83 Jalan Radin Tengah, Bandar Sri Petaling, KL (Tel: 03-9058 7851). Business Hrs: (11am-12.30am daily). Brings to mind scenes of cowboy movies of yesteryear. Western cuisine with a local twist like the D’ Fortune Seafood Spaghetti with Cili Padi.

WENDY’S BISTRO, 20 Jalan PJS8/18, Dataran Sunway Mentari, PJ (Tel: 03-5630 1699). Business Hrs: Daily (11am-11pm). Non-halal. Incorporates a deli and bar with an extensive menu to boot with a variety of set lunches. Popular for its variety of pork dishes.

RESTORAN KING CRAB, 103-105 Jalan SS25/2, Taman Mewah Jaya, PJ (Tel: 03-7808 2388). Business Hrs: Daily (11am-2.30pm); dinner (6pm-11pm). Non-halal. Extremely popular so getting a table requires some waiting time. Some dishes need pre-ordering.

FLOWER DRUM FINE CHINESE RESTAURANT, 239 1st Floor, Jalan Bukit Bintang, KL (Tel: 03-2142 2625). Business Hrs: Mon-Sat, lunch (11.30am-2.30pm); dinner (6.30pm-10.30pm). Baked Australian Lamb Chop with Red Wine, Grilled King Prawns with Lemongrass, Peking Duck and Oven-Baked Lamb Chop with Lemongrass and Steamed Cod Fish with Shredded Abalone & Chinese Herbs are some of the dishes to look forward to.

For Christmas and New Year, the restaurant is offering free Kerabu Mango Siakap Fish to diners spending more than RM120 on a single receipt. Regular specials include Ayam Api-Api, Thai-style Butter Prawn, Siamese Steamed Red Snapper and Curry Seafood Combo.

H&H Restaurant, 25, Jalan PJU5/12, Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara (Tel: 03-61418911). Business Hrs:11.00am to 10.00pm. Halal. Set Meal for four at RM41.90 with a choice of four dishes, Curry Fish Head / Assam Fish Head, Kapitan Chicken / Claypot Chicken, Fried Crispy Sotong / Baked Towfoo, Vegetables and Rice. Available daily for lunch and dinner.
