Hamburg football club open cemetery for their fans

_HAMBURG: Lifelong fans of Hamburg SV now have the chance of the ultimate resting place — their own cemetery and a grave covered by the original grass from their team’s playing field.

The Bundesliga club opened the cemetery, which is within view of the club’s arena.

”We will have the first funeral here in the next few days,’’ Christian Reichert, a member of the club’s board, said on Tuesday.

The entrance to the HSV cemetery, which is part of a larger Hamburg cemetery, is a concrete replica of a football goal. The football cemetery will be able to hold up to 500 graves.

Boca Juniors of Argentina is the other club to have cemetery for fans. — AP
