Encounter of the thorny kind

IT WAS the fairer sex that conquered the King of Fruits at the durian fest held last weekend.

Subang Jaya state assemblyman Hannah Yeoh emerged the winner defeating the other VIPs who sportingly took on the challenge at the charity drive to raise funds for the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia.

The other contenders who didn’t mind getting their hands dirty at the durian-eating challenge were Selangor State Local Government, Study and Research executive councillor Ronnie Liu, Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo-Burne, Children’s Wish Society president Tan Sri Dr Ramon Navaratnam and executive director Allan Hubbert and Subang Parade complex manager Chay Siew Mun.

All they had to do was hold the half opened durian husk and eat the contents without using their hands.

Cheered by more than 1,000 people who turned up for the event, the contestants went for the pulps with much gusto.

Yeoh did her part within minutes without any mess on her face while the other contestants ended up with durian-smeared faces.

Earlier, Liu and Hannah pledged RM2,500 and RM10,000 respectively to the society.
