Goldsmith worker killed in robbery

KUALA LUMPUR: A goldsmith worker was shot dead when four robbers, three armed with semi-auto pistols, held up the Tomei outlet in the Carrefour hypermarket in Wangsa Maju here.

The employee whose identity is not made known to the media died at the Gleneagles Hospital. She was shot in her stomach.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Ku Chin Wah said the 26-year-old employee was shot when she tried to run into the storeroom when the robbers struck at the outlet.

There were five workers in the premises when the incident occurred and no customers.

It is learnt there were five robbers and one of them was waiting in the car at the basement car park of the hypermarket in the 8.30pm incident.

“Initial investigation reveals that the robbers fled with jewellery worth about RM500,000,” he said adding that they fled in a black Proton Wira.

However, the car, which was not reported stolen so far, was found burnt at Section 6, about a kilometre from the hypermarket.

SAC Ku said the robbers fired three shots and police are scrutinising the CCTV image.

This is the third Tomei goldsmith shop attacked by robbers since June.
