PETALING JAYA: MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting will not name his elder brother Datuk Ong Ka Chuan as his successor but will leave it to the party grassroots to decide who should be their leader.
I wont name anyone as successor, I am very sure I wont name Ka Chuan as the successor, he said in an interview with Malaysiakini.com on Friday.
Ka Ting also quashed rumours that he was creating an Ong dynasty in the party.
It would not take very long (to prove this), the next party election will show, he said.
Ong stressed that he preferred party leaders and members to be forthright with him and that he would keep an open mind.
On his decision to drop a number of loyalists of former president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik in the 12th general election, Ong said:
When it comes to rejuvenation, it is no longer a factor who is close to who anymore, we should talk about their suitability (as a candidate), how long you have been there and whether they are potential winners or not.
Ong also denied that he has any links to the three-man spy unit, which was allegedly formed to snoop on his political enemies.
Dismissing it as utter rubbish, he said he was totally surprised at the accusation that he was the man behind the team that allegedly led to the downfall of former party vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
On Friday, the partys presidential council appointed party veteran Tan Sri Dr Sak Cheng Lum and lawyers Roger Tan and Teh Hock Kee to investigate the claims.
Ong said the allegations were also against his principle to promote a healthy political culture and did not go well with his character.
Of course in politics, people may try to tarnish my image or to cast some doubts on me but I can stand up to the truth.
Ong also refuted claims that he was consolidating his power to be the unchallengeable president by taking up the Johor MCA chief post.
He slammed the Save MCA campaign, saying that it had an ulterior motive and that it was unnecessary.
