Shahrizat made special adviser


PUTRAJAYA: Former Women, Family, Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil has been appointed Special Adviser to the Prime Minister for Women and Social Development Affairs. 

In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Shahrizat’s appointment will take effect today.  

It said she would be working closely with the ministry she had once served. 

Currently, the Prime Minister has a Religious Adviser, Tan Sri Hamid Othman, and a Foreign Affairs Adviser, Tan Sri Kadir Mohamad. 

The special adviser position carries with it ministerial status whereby she gets access to information and is provided with an office and secretaries like a full Cabinet minister.  

However, she cannot attend Cabinet meetings. 

Shahrizat failed to defend her Lembah Pantai seat.
