Peace in the eyes of kids

WHAT better way to inculcate world peace than through children’s art?

This is what many students aged from 7 to 13 did when they depicted their innocent visions of world peace during the recent annual World Peace Posters Art Contest organised by the Lions Club of Subang Jaya.

The winners: First prize by Vivian Teoh (centre), 2nd prize by Jason Paang (right) and 3rd prize by Chin Mei Yee.

The event at the Sunway Pyramid Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya was held in conjunction with the Health and Sightfirst Project.

Some of the posters showed people of various races and nationalities living in harmony with flying doves, symbolising peace and harmony.

The drawings also showed colourful display of flags and landmark buildings from the world over, adding a multinational touch to the contest.

Vivian Teoh won the first prize while the second and third prizes went to Jason Paang and Chin Mei Yee respectively.

Lions Club of Subang Jaya president Tony Siew said the event was a success and he was pleased to note that Subang Jaya state assemblyman Hannah Yeoh had pledged RM2,500 from the state government towards the Lions Club charity drive.

There were free health and eye screening as well as organ pledges.

There were also health talks by Malaysian SLE Society president, Assoc Prof Dr Esha Das Gupta (What is SLE), Ch’ng Giat Hun and Sulaiza Sulaiman (Breast Cancer Detection & Diagnosis), nurse clinician, Anand Kaur (When Kidney Fails); and Dr Paul Victor (Say No to Cervical Cancer).

The event also saw the giving of 20 pairs of free spectacles to orphans of Persatuan Kebajikan Ti Ratana, Pertubuhan Rumah Amal Cahaya Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Selangor and Persatuan Penjagaan Kanak-kanak Cacat Klang, Selangor.

Leos of SMK Subang Utama, SMK USJ4 and SMK USJ8 and The Society of Interpreters for the Deaf also entertained the crowd with songs and dances.
