Red faces as IRB’s e-filing system fails

PETALING JAYA: Barely 24 hours after its launch, the e-filing system for taxpayers crashed yesterday, in an embarrassment to Inland Revenue Board officials.

The e-filing system was tested and had operated smoothly since the beginning of this month.

However, the board discovered technical glitches with the service provider, Digicert Sdn Bhd, when its staff members tried to download digital certificates yesterday after receiving complaints from its branches that the digital certificates could not be downloaded.

Sources from Digicert Sdn Bhd said the problem could probably be rectified within three days.

The e-filing system and taxpayers month programme 2007 was launched by Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Awang Adek Hussin at KL Sentral on Tuesday.
