Terengganu government: No truth to opposition claims

KUALA TERENGGANU: The state government has dismissed the claim by the opposition that RM200mil was allocated for the promotion of the Monsoon Cup in Pulau Doyong last year.

“That’s a baseless claim as the fund was not from the state government’s coffers but allotted either by private sponsors or the Federal Government,” State Infrastructure, Public Amenity and Communication committee chairman Datuk Wan Hisham Wan Salleh told Datuk Harun Taib (PAS - Manir) during the 11th state assembly sitting here recently.

Wan Hisham said he was perplexed how the assemblyman from the opposition obtained such inaccurate information on the allocation.

“This is seen an attempt to mar the image of the Monsoon Cup by certain quarters.”

Harun claimed he got the information from an “insider” serving the current government.

Meanwhile, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said he regretted that the opposition members uttered harsh words during the sitting without considering the holy Ramadan month.

Speaking to reporters after the assembly, Idris said Barisan members refrained from using such words in respect of the holy month.

“The opposition claims to be the champion of Islam but their actions do not reflect so,” he added.

Idris was commenting on certain words uttered by Datuk Wan Muttalib Embong (PAS-Batu Burok) while debating the amended State Service Commission Enactment 2006 when the motion was earlier tabled.

Wan Muttalib labelled State Exco Datuk Rosol Wahid “stupid and tolol” (idiot) when he intervened to seek clarification from the opposition on the rationale of his debate. Wan Muttalib retracted the words after being directed by speaker Datuk Che Mat Jusoh.

The assembly adjourned sine dine.
